Introducing your host and mentor...

Irishman Alan McElroy is an “award winning stand-up comedian”, having won Best Newcomer at the NZ Comedy Guild Awards in 2011 as well as being nominated as the best emcee at the awards in 2017.  A regular headliner and emcee at The Classic Comedy Club, throughout New Zealand, and host of Irish shows in the Australian comedy and fringe festivals he is also as an actor (some may recognise him from his time on Shortland Street) and had the title of “Crack Up Quiz Supreme Leader”.

Alan credits comedy to saving his life when we was going through a tough time and at his lowest point.  Not one to look for attention Alan has only shared his story with those close to him but reached out after a friend asked if there was anyway he could support ‘Steps for Life’.  Keen to help others as well as engage in a fun project he has kindly donated his time and craft to help empower young kiwis to unleash their potential and realise their talent using comedy as a framework
